£17m move doesn’t leave Villa fans angry

The big news of the day is that Ashley Young has left Aston Villa for Manchester United for the hearty sum of £15-17M. The English winger has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford in a move that had been expected over recent days.

What shocked me most about the move of Young, who scored just nine goals in 39 appearances this past season for Villa, was the lacking of anger and bitterness from Villa fans.

Granted, I’m dealing with a small sample size, but on places like VillaTalk.com and the message board at Aston Villa Mad, fans seem to be happy with the move, knowing they brought in some money for a player who hadn’t exactly been lighting it up for them as of late.

But comments like this seem to summarize the thinking:

Good move for him – hopefully good money for us.

Good Luck Ash… get ready for some cold evenings on the bench…

And this one summed up my thinking:

Had some great times with him, particulary the winner v everton; but im glad hes gone, form me he got too big for his boots and thought he was bigger than anyone at VP, yet his performances dipped in the last 18 months.

Think hes got a culture shock coming now with fergie.

Yes, there are some none too pleased with his leaving, but that’s to be expected.

What about you? How are you handling Ashley Young’s move? How should Villa spend the money?
